Dr. Christian Kummerow

photo of Dr. Christian Kummerow Dr. Kummerow received his A.B. in Physics from the University of California, Berkley, in 1982, and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Minnesota in 1987. Dr. Kummerow has research experience in developing multi-frequency radiometer algorithms and multi-instrument techniques to determine rainfall, the vertical structure of precipitation and the associated latent heating profiles. Dr. Kummerow has also been invloved in the development of three dimensional radiative transfer solutions for radiation in the passive microwave frequency range. In addition to his activities on the AMSR science team, Dr. Kummerow currently serves as the Deputy Project Scientist on NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) and as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Atmospheric and Ocean Technology.

From 1978 to 1988, Dr. Kummerow worked as a research scientist for General Sciences Corporation. In 1988, he joined the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) where he was employed as a research scientist until 1991, when he joined the staff at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Mesoscale Atmospheric Processes Branch.

In 1995, Dr. Kummerow was awarded the TRMM Outstanding Performance Award for his exceptional contributions to the accomplishment of the TRMM.

Dr. Kummerow is now an associate professor at the Colorado State University Department of Atmospheric Science.
