    SPoRT Transitional Support

SPoRT will integrate the derived product or solution developed in this activity into the AWIPS environment or other appropriate decision support system, and work with the PI and his/her team to develop the appropriate training modules on the use of the product in the users decision support system, and help assess the impact of the transitioned product on weather forecast operations. SPoRT has developed the tools and expertise to integrate unique and non-conventional data into the NWS AWIPS decision support systems, making NASA products available to NWS staff to address various forecast issues. Data is ingested by SPoRT, processed and formatted to AWIPS conventions and distributed (through NWS Regional Offices) to WFOs via the widely used Local Data Manager (LDM) software. The procedure provides data to the end user in AWIPS with limited data latency. SPoRT has developed a number of training modules to support the use of new data in the forecast environment. These modules can be viewed on the SPoRT website's Training Page. These modules are also available to NWS forecasters via the NOAA Learning Management System (LMS) which gives forecasters on-the-job training create for viewing these modules. SPoRT will work with the PI to develop forecaster training on the new capability. The utility of the transitioned product in the operational setting and its forecast impact are an important SPoRT metrics. SPoRT staff will collaborate with individual PIs and their teams to conduct a product assessment of the transitioned product. SPoRT has significant experience in conducting these assessments as indicated by the various assessment reports and publications. See links on the SPoRT web site for details on these activities.
