Dr. Atkinson is a consultant to NASA at the NSSTC, developing software to process data products from Terra and Aqua Earth Observing System satellites. He is also responsible for developing and maintaining software for decoding of real-time weather satellite data streams. In the past, he has analyzed and converted data from multiple sensor sources, satellite and aircraft, into corrected images and information including calibration and navigation. He modified and validated algorithms as necessary and provided feedback to algorithm originators. In addition, Dr. Atkinson posted complete scientific results to multiple media, making information available to scientists rapidly and comprehensively. He has done this for such products as motion vectors, target size, and location; furthermore, he assisted in the preparation of many scientific publications and proposals.
